Process chlorine free (PCF) papers contain postconsumer recycled fiber that was processed without the use of any additional chlorine or chlorine compounds. If these papers also contain a percentage of virgin fiber, the virgin fiber must have been processed without the use of any chlorine or chlorine compounds. Elemental chlorine free (ECF) papers may have been bleached with chlorine compounds such as chlorine dioxide, but are free of elemental chlorine. |

Minuteman Press of New London is proud to be a leader in this cities recycling efforts. While exploring what was available to us we came to realize that there was currently no recycling available for the tenants of the Crocker House. Not content to only serve the needs of ourselves, Minuteman Press of New London lobbied to get a recycling dumpster installed on the property which is now used by all of the building businesses and residence. Recycling bins are also conveniently placed next to all of our copy and digital printing equipment to help assure that the proper waste ends up in the proper place. |

Soy Ink |
|

Should you be interested, Minuteman Press of New London offers a full range of soy and other vegetable-based inks, which are less harmful to the enviornment than their pertoleum-based counterparts. Soy and vegetable products are used in ink for their oils, which act as the vehicle for the ink pigments. There are several types of vegetable-based printing inks, including linseed (Flax), tung (Chinawood), castor, canola, and safflower. Soy is popular because it is a very stable material that exhibits excellent "wetting" properties which enhance its ability to carry solid pigments. Most manufacturers of soy and vegetable based inks today actually "blend" ingredients, much in the way a winemaker will blend grapes, in order to take advantage of the unique characteristics of each oil. |

When exploring the best place to open Minuteman Press of New London, there were many option available. We decided that instead of building a new location, we would renovate and settle in at the historic Crocker House, originally constructed in 1873. By renovating one of the unsung pearls of New London, Minuteman Press is making a commitment to the rejuvenation and reemergence of the downtown area. We have tried to preserve as much of the original building materials as possible and made as minimal an environmental impact as we could. We would love to show you around so come and see the space for yourself. |
